Dörrenbach: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Trail is a 5.9-kilometre-long trail with seven stations depicting characters from traditional folk tales. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Dörrenbach can continue searching for accommodation afterwards.

Culture and History

The half-timbered Renaissance town hall, built in 1590/91, is a landmark; its hall is also used for wine tastings and traditional local events.

The fortified Church of Saint Martin has been jointly used by both Christian denominations since 1684/85. Its oldest section, the lower choir, dates from around 1300. The choir contains paintings from the 14th and 15th centuries. A bell dating from around 1330 is described as one of the oldest bells in the Palatinate.

The Kolmerberg Chapel is a pilgrimage chapel; documentary records for the site date back to 1470. The former hermits’ quarters at the chapel provided overnight accommodation and a place to stay for groups and individual visitors.

Trails and Views

The Sleeping Beauty Circular Hiking Trail begins in Dörrenbach and passes the ruins of Guttenberg Castle, the sandstone formation known as the Stone Table, and the Stäffelsberg.

The platform of the Stäffelsberg Tower is reached by climbing 120 steps. Its views are described as extending across the Rhine Plain, Alsace and the Palatinate Forest, and in good visibility as far as the Black Forest and the Vosges.

Wine and Connections

Bus route 543 connects Dörrenbach with Bad Bergzabern, the German Wine Gate and Wissembourg in Alsace.

Visitors are invited to take part in wine tastings with Dörrenbach’s local winegrowers.
