Nature
The Wißberg within Sankt Johann's municipal area reaches 270 metres and is one of the highest elevations in Rheinhessen. It is home to the Golfclub Rheinhessen golf course, with extensive views across the Rheinhessen landscape. The course covers 75 hectares, is a par-72 championship course and offers panoramic views.
The Hiwweltour Wißberg circular hiking trail runs around the Wißberg for 9.8 kilometres and includes 209 metres of elevation gain. The 4.5-kilometre Panorama Trail on the Wißberg has only slight inclines and features seating areas and distant views; golfers and vintners can also be observed at work there. The Climate Protection Trail follows this Wißberg Panorama Trail and addresses climate protection and sustainability in a family-friendly format. Sankt Johann is also connected to the Rheinhessen Way of St. James.
Culture
The present-day Johanniskirche was begun in the 1330s or early 1340s; the first construction phase was probably completed by the end of the 1350s. It is a High Gothic three-aisled pseudo-basilica and is considered one of the most important village churches in Rheinhessen. Five wall paintings have been preserved inside.
A large proportion of the Wilhelminian-era farm complexes in Sankt Johann has been preserved. The Sankt Johanner Market, a tradition dating back to Sankt Johann's pilgrimage era, takes place on the weekend after 24 June.
