Birken-Honigsessen brings together local history and hiking. The 10th stage of the Natursteig Sieg trail is more than 24 kilometres long, follows a wide loop around Birken-Honigsessen, leads through the Birken district and passes St. Elisabeth Church. The church in Birken was built in 1930 according to designs by Cologne diocesan architect Dominikus Böhm; its copper tent roof was described as unique at the time.

In the wider region around Birken-Honigsessen are Blankenberg Castle, the disused quarry (above B 478) in the Bröl Valley and the Southern Bastion.

Nature

The Eberhard Trumler Station in Wolfswinkel researches the social behaviour of dogs, particularly wild dogs and hybrids. At weekends, the station welcomes visitors by prior telephone appointment; guided tours for school classes are available during the week.
