Culture and History
In the district of Baumberg is Haus Bürgel, a former Roman fort in the Urdenbacher Kämpe nature reserve. Roman baking workshops are offered there for groups of children and adults. The Schelmenturm is 26 metres high. The present-day tower is the last architectural remnant of the third fortification, which probably originated around 1423. The old town has well-preserved half-timbered houses from the 18th century and a diverse range of restaurants. The Monheim Geyser is also part of the townscape: the artificial geyser stands on a roundabout and was designed by Swiss artist Thomas Stricker. During an eruption phase, it produces water fountains up to twelve metres high.
Nature
The nearby Urdenbacher Kämpe is a regularly flooded, undyked Rhine floodplain with orchards, wetlands, aquatic landscapes, and remnants of floodplain forest. In the nearby Urdenbacher Kämpe, there are eight marked routes ranging from two to ten kilometres in length, as well as information and audio stations and benches.
