From Winterberg, Langewiese can be reached by bus route R28 in the direction of Bad Berleburg. The Schmelzhüttenweg begins at the village garden opposite the Tourist Information Office; parking is available at the Langewiese shooting hall. Known as the Schmelzhüttenweg (L3), it is an easy, 6.828-kilometre, loop-style hiking route with 186 metres of ascent and descent. The trail passes the Protestant church and continues to the Rothaarsteig.
