This gives you two different routes to choose from: the staircase has a set number of steps, while the winding path follows a zigzag route uphill. The tip of the Tetrahedron is illuminated at night, making it a landmark visible from far across Bottrop.

Art and culture take centre stage on Halde Haniel. A 15-station Way of the Cross leads to the summit; the cross was erected in 1992. Another distinctive feature is an installation by Agustín Ibarrola: one hundred painted railway sleepers are arranged like totems on the mound. At a height of 126 metres, there is also an amphitheatre with space for 800 visitors, which serves as a venue for cultural events.
