Venwegen combines a varied landscape with hiking experiences for different day plans. Protected landscape features are located on the edge of the village, while several signposted trails lead through forests, stream meadows, field margins and meadows. The village offers specific options both for families who want to spend time outdoors together and for travellers looking for a longer route with natural and cultural connections.

Discover the landscape and character of the village

A small orchard lies on the southern edge of Venwegen and is designated as a protected landscape feature. Another protected landscape feature is located on a terrain ridge on the eastern edge of Venwegen. Typical shrubs of calcareous soils grow there, including blackthorn, hawthorn and hornbeam. These different landscapes give Venwegen a distinct setting for walks and hikes, without every route having the same character.

St. Brigida Church is also part of the village's points of reference. The lovingly restored and well-maintained building is located at Vennstraße 91 in Venwegen. Historically, Venwegen was a stop on the route from Kornelimünster through the High Fens. Those interested not only in the landscape but also in the development of the village can include this historical context in their travel planning.

Hiking trails for different day plans

The “Gedankenschleife” follows an approximately 13-kilometre route around Venwegen. Its aim is to encourage reflection. This makes the trail particularly suitable for a day of hiking in which not only the distance covered but also the thematic focus of the route plays a role. Take the approximate length into account when planning your outing.

A nature-focused alternative is the signposted Circular Route 07, “Venwegen Circular Route”. The hike, which is just under 9.6 kilometres long, starts and ends at the Birkenhof car park. It leads through forests, stream meadows and field margins and includes six stations focusing on how forests, water and ecosystems are adapting to climate change. Highlights include the panoramic view from Venwegen across the Münsterländchen, Aachen and as far as the three-country border, as well as the Vichtbach stream as a natural area with a history.

The “Venwegen Family Walk” is around four kilometres long, easy to walk and family-friendly. The start and finish are at the Birkenhof car park in Stolberg-Venwegen. Along the route through wooded areas and past meadows, there are observation and interactive stations about forest edges, insects, traces of fungi, calamine and the Andreashütte. The route is suitable for pushchairs. This allows you to tailor your stay to the children's ages and the desired length of the hike, without requiring a long day tour.

Practical guidance for choosing your accommodation

Cars can be parked free of charge at the Venwegen-Birkenhof car park. Opposite the Birkenhof restaurant, the Venwegen hiking car park also provides an additional access point to the Vital-Parcours. The Vennwegen Süd stop, closest to the starting point of the Vital-Parcours, is served by various bus routes. This information will help you take your preferred type of arrival and the focus of your excursions into account when searching for a holiday apartment in Venwegen.

The Copper Route passes the Andreashütte on its way to the Birkenhof forest restaurant/hotel in the Venwegen district. There is an opportunity to take a break there before completing the final three kilometres of the route.
