Hiking and paddling on the L3 tour
The L3 consists of two parts, a canoe trip and a hike, each lasting about two hours. Nature park rangers lead the hiking group from Loitz to Zeitlow; guides from the Loitz canoe station accompany the paddling group to the same destination. The changeover in Zeitlow is part of the tour. The two sections offer a practical way to combine exercise on land and on the water.
You can also rent a canoe at Marina Loitz independently of this combination tour. This lets you choose between a guided combination of hiking and paddling and canoe rental as a separate option. For another way to get around, you can rent e-bikes at the harbour in Loitz by the day, for a weekend or, if needed, for longer. The different rental periods allow you to plan for a suitable length of time, without prescribing a particular route.
Discover the old town and its history
A short walk through Loitz’s historic old town takes you to its sights. It offers a cultural counterpoint to activities on the water and on foot. You can also include St. Mary's Church in your exploration, a church building dating from the 13th century. The Peene River and its floodplain
The Peene River is at the heart of the natural landscape across the wider travel region. It is also known as the “Amazon of the North” and is one of Germany’s last unaltered rivers. Its floodplain covers about 20,000 hectares and is one of the largest contiguous lowland peatland areas in Central and Western Europe. The Peene Valley is also known for its extensive populations of otters and beavers.
The Zeitlow waterside rest area offers a view across the Peene River. Otters have already been spotted right at the rest area. This observation applies to this particular location and does not guarantee that you will see animals during a visit. Loitz and Zeitlow thus offer different impressions shaped by the Peene: the river as part of an expansive floodplain landscape, and a specific rest area by the water.
