Langen Brütz is a municipality in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany.
Langen Brütz lies around ten kilometres east of Schwerin; Brüel and Crivitz are among the surrounding towns.
Landscape and Nature
The Warnow flows through Langen Brütz. The smaller lakes within the municipality include Großer Pohlsee west of Langen Brütz and Hofsee near Kritzow; Cambser See borders the municipality to the northwest.
Langen Brütz lies in a hilly terminal moraine landscape along the Warnow Valley. At 90 metres above sea level, Uhuberg near Kritzow is the highest elevation.
Nature and landscape conservation areas cover 39 percent of the municipal area.
History
Langen Brütz was first mentioned in a document in 1335, and Kritzow in 1317. Burial mounds and stone graves indicate that the area was settled earlier.
Richenberg Castle near Kritzow on the Warnow was the residence of Prince Pribislaw I of Parchim-Richenberg from 1248 until his deposition in 1256.
