Motte, settlement and church
The so-called motte is a raised mound that points to a former Slavic castle complex. The former settlement of Miltitzwalde is also part of the village’s history: it was established as part of King Frederick William I’s efforts to increase settlement in rural areas. The church in Pripsleben was also first mentioned in 1245. However, its present-day fieldstone structure dates from the 15th century and is a late medieval building with a half-timbered tower. In its history, the church was initially an independent parish, later came under Treptow, and subsequently became a branch church of Altenhagen. The first mention and the present-day building therefore represent two different points in time.
One particular historical detail concerns the bell housed in the half-timbered tower: it may date from the time the tower was built. It bears the same maker’s mark as a former bell in Werder, which was dated to 1489. This possible dating is deliberately left open; the comparison of the maker’s marks provides an additional clue.
Stream and local production
The Torney stream flows through Pripsleben, adding a local waterway to the village’s historical points of interest. The Torney butcher’s shop also originated in the village and has its headquarters there. At this location, the company produces a range of delicatessen salads and dips with six employees. Alongside its historical traces, present-day economic activity and food production are therefore also part of what makes Pripsleben distinctive.
