Kuckssee: Discover Nature and Culture
Accommodation in Kuckssee
Kuckssee combines a small lake with a landscape shaped by alder carr forest and peatlands. Kuckssee Lake covers about 7 hectares and lies among the districts of the municipality of Kuckssee. Together with Lapitzer See, it forms a 110-hectare nature reserve. Visitors interested in nature and culture will find various ways to shape their trip here, from views of the protected natural landscape to historic buildings in Kuckssee.

Lakes, Peatlands and Wildlife
The purpose of the Kuckssee and Lapitzer See Nature Reserve includes preserving shallow lakes with broad belts of reeds and other vegetation, spring-fed alder carr forests, and open peatlands. These habitats give the landscape its distinctive character. The focus is not just on the two lakes: the transitions to the forest and peatland areas are also part of the protected natural landscape.
The nature reserve is home to moor frogs, otters, white-tailed eagles and ospreys; cranes also breed there. Kuckssee is also an important roosting site for wintering bean geese and greylag geese. The range of wildlife and habitats makes nature-watching a natural focus for your stay.
Explore the Surroundings Mindfully
There are no public paths in the Kuckssee and Lapitzer See Nature Reserve. Keep this restriction in mind when planning your excursions. For a different way to get outdoors, the municipal forest in Krukow is ideal for hiking. This is a separate activity in Krukow and should not be confused with walking in the nature reserve.
The Kucksberg, immediately west of the nature reserve and at an elevation of 73 m, offers a view across the protected area. The Kucksberg and the municipal forest appeal to different interests: views of the landscape on the one hand, and hiking on the other.
Manor Houses and a Fieldstone Church
Cultural attractions are also part of Kuckssee’s character. These include Krukow Manor House (Castle) and the fieldstone church in Krukow. Alongside the natural attractions, both add a cultural focus to your trip. The Puchow Manor ensemble includes two gatehouses at the entrance and a manor park. The gatehouses and park complement the manor house to create an ensemble with several components, offering a different focus for sightseeing than the lakes, forest and peatlands.
Choose the Right Place to Stay
When choosing a holiday apartment or house, consider which of these interests will shape your trip. The natural landscape and wildlife, hiking in Krukow, and cultural attractions each offer a different focus. Krukow lies directly on the B 192 and is well connected by road. If being close to this road matters when choosing a location, you can take this into account while looking for accommodation.
