St. Anne’s Chapel and its history
St. Anne’s Chapel is a half-timbered building erected in 1687. Inside, the building has a flat ceiling, and the chancel has an octagonal end. A boarded roof turret with a shingle roof rises above the west gable. A small medieval bronze bell hangs inside and rings for church services. The chapel stands in Gallin directly beside the B 195, slightly elevated and surrounded by a stone wall.
The interior features described include an altar decorated with wood carvings and the Wedemhof coat of arms, a Baroque altar, and a simple wooden pulpit from the late Renaissance. The altarpiece depicts the Crucifixion of Jesus. After restoration and renovation in 1998/99, the interior was restored; it has the feel of a rustic farmhouse parlour where visitors can linger. The chapel thus offers a distinct cultural and historical highlight in Gallin that can be appreciated without any prior knowledge of art history.
The chapel is also linked to a local tradition: Tsar Peter the Great is said to have attended a church service in the small chapel around the turn of the year 1712/1713. Gallin’s old farmhouses are also mentioned as regional attractions and add to the historic character of the village.
Between the sculpture park and Hof Gallin
A cycling and walking trail connects the sculpture park in Gallin with Hof Gallin. Its water-bound base and surface layer are a distinctive feature of the trail. Old fruit varieties have been planted along the route. This means the connection between the two destinations can also be enjoyed as a trail in its own right: it passes fruit plantings and offers a different focus from the chapel’s history.
Gut Gallin and regional produce
Gut Gallin is a farm in the Schaalsee UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The farm manages a contiguous area of 1,000 hectares of arable and grassland. Gut Gallin has practised organic farming since 1991; it is a member of Bioland and BUND and carries the “Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve” regional brand.
The estate includes an organic butcher’s shop, a farm shop and a farmhouse parlour. In addition to meat and sausages, the farm shop offers seasonal vegetables, salads and tomatoes from the organic farm. These products give Gallin’s agricultural character a tangible culinary dimension.
Gallin as a base for your stay
The chapel, trail and estate offer different ways to experience Gallin: cultural and historical details, a route for cycling and walking, and agriculture and regional produce. The 300-hectare A24 Business Park is also located in Gallin and has direct access to the motorway. This is a separate transport-related aspect of the village.
