Organ history and distinctive buildings
The Buchholz organ, built in 1819 in St. Bartholomew’s Church, was rebuilt and enlarged in 1866/67 by Stettin organ builder Grüneberg. It has four manuals, a pedal and 52 stops. The instrument was restored between 1998 and 2002, and rededicated in September 2002. Its history can therefore be traced through several stages: from its construction and alteration to its restoration.
The Gothic town hall also tells a story of a later new beginning: it was faithfully rebuilt and inaugurated in September 1998. The water tower, built of red brick in 1897, reflects a different kind of change. After it was decommissioned as part of the water supply system, it was converted into a planetarium with an observatory and viewing platform. The town hall is notable for its faithful reconstruction, while the water tower exemplifies the conversion of a former utility building.

Swimming at Biberburg
The Biberburg natural swimming lake is designed as a naturally landscaped bathing area with opportunities to play and relax. Facilities include a 51-metre giant slide, two diving towers and a playground. This offers families a choice of activities: sliding, diving, playing or spending time by the water. The bathing area offers a clear contrast to the city’s cultural attractions and can add a recreational highlight to your stay.
Two cycling routes from Demmin
One cycling tour starts in Demmin, goes via Verchen and Dargun, and returns to Demmin. In Dargun, the route passes the ruins of the monastery and castle complex; in Upost, it includes a hillfort and burial mounds. A second tour runs from Demmin via Medrow, Nehringen and Brudersdorf back to Demmin harbour. Its distinctive stop along the way is the wooden bascule bridge in Nehringen.
The two routes therefore differ in the sights described: one passes the ruins and the historic remains at Upost, while the other features the bascule bridge. Both start in Demmin; one returns to Demmin, while the other ends specifically at Demmin harbour.
