Discover Pattensen: Circular Routes and History
Accommodation in Pattensen
Pattensen combines circular routes with historical discoveries: you can explore the town on foot or by bike and learn more about its history on a self-guided tour. When choosing your holiday apartment, it is worth first considering whether you want to spend your holiday mainly exploring the routes and historic sites in Pattensen, or also discovering other topics in the Hanover Region.

Circular routes: from eight kilometres to a longer cycling circuit
The Pattenser Rundweg is eight kilometres long and starts and finishes at the former town hall in Pattensen. The route is flat and runs exclusively on paved paths. It is suitable for hiking and cycling, as well as for pushchairs and wheelchairs. The ten-kilometre Calenberger Ackerweg starts and finishes at the Pattensen indoor swimming pool; it is also flat, follows paved paths and is suitable for hiking and cycling.
The twelve-kilometre Oerier Wald-und-Flur-Weg also starts and finishes at the same indoor swimming pool and is suitable for hiking and cycling. A longer cycling circuit is the 32-kilometre Ring der Städtepartnerschaft. It starts and finishes at the former town hall and runs exclusively on paved paths.
Other circular routes have their own landmarks: the 13-kilometre Koldinger-Seen-Weg starts and finishes at Lindenplatz in Koldingen. For the twelve-kilometre Leineauen-Weg, the start and finish are either at the Rodelberg in Pattensen on Redener Weg or at the Leine bridge by NABU in Alt-Grasdorf. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
City tour and architectural history
The free Pattensen-Zeitreise app lets you take a self-guided city tour with 16 stops. The stops bring Pattensen’s history to life on location. Check whether the app is available before your trip. The tour offers a different way to explore the town from the circular routes: instead of choosing a route by distance, you can follow the historic stops.
Individual buildings also offer a reason to take a closer look at Pattensen’s history. In Jeinsen, the tower of St. George’s Church was built in the Early Gothic style around 700 to 800 years ago. In Schulenburg, a district of Pattensen, earthworks, cellars, foundations and the remains of a gun tower are still preserved at Feste Calenberg. Some areas have been closed since 2008.
More to explore in the wider destination of the Hanover Region
If you would like to plan your holiday beyond Pattensen, the wider destination of the Hanover Region also offers a range of different focuses. In Hanover, the Herrenhäuser Gärten comprise the Great Garden, the Berggarten, the Georgengarten and the Welfengarten. The Berggarten developed from a vegetable and nursery garden into a botanical garden; digital garden rallies and experience tours explore various garden-related themes.
Lake Steinhude is the largest inland body of water in north-western Germany and is best known for its watersports and holiday opportunities. In Mardorf, a state-recognised resort, a five-kilometre lakeside path invites you to take a stroll. These regional attractions offer a different focus from Pattensen’s circular routes and architectural history. You can choose where to stay based on whether you would rather focus on Pattensen’s routes and historic sites or on gardens and watersports in the wider destination of the Hanover Region.
