Dangast between mudflats, beach and art
Accommodation in Dangast
Dangast combines the North Sea, mudflats and art with experiences that can be tailored to different interests. At the bathing beach, you can swim in the North Sea while also using the concrete path along the water’s edge. It is easily accessible by wheelchair, rollator or pushchair. When looking for a holiday apartment in Dangast, it is therefore worth deciding first what you want to focus on during your holiday: should the beach and water be the main attractions, or would you like to combine nature, family activities, wellness and art?
Mudflats and water on the Jade Bay
At the Jade Bay near Dangast, the ebb and flow of the tide creates the impression that the bay falls completely dry twice a day and is flooded again twice a day. This unique landscape can be explored in more detail on guided mudflat walks organised by the Dangast National Park House. Children aged 3 to 12 can join their parents at the water’s edge with a landing net, dig up shells and lugworms, and examine the way these small animals live.
The National Park House is located in the old village school at the entrance to Dangast. It also houses a family adventure centre covering more than 500 m². Those who like to combine their stay with hands-on nature observation will find their own way of discovering the Jade Bay landscape here. At the bathing beach, by contrast, the immediate North Sea experience remains the main attraction.
Playground, swimming pool and sauna
Dangast offers further destinations for varied days out. The “Wattbuttjer” World Natural Heritage playground is located directly on the dyke and features a large play ship as well as other play equipment. The DanGastQuellbad has indoor and outdoor areas; all swimming pools are filled with iodine brine water. This makes it possible to combine days by the sea with time at the swimming pool, without making swimming in the North Sea the sole focus of your holiday.
The Watt'n Sauna includes two Finnish saunas, a gentle sauna and a fireplace lounge. This complements the nature and water experiences with a more peaceful focus. There are around 280 parking spaces in front of the World Natural Heritage portal. The “Am Strand” bus stop is also located there. The approximate number of parking spaces and the exact stop can provide practical orientation when planning your day.
Art is part of the local character
Dangast is also associated with the artist Franz Radziwill. The Franz Radziwill House preserves his original home and studio. The upper floor hosts changing exhibitions featuring works created there, including more than 800 paintings, watercolours and drawings. This adds a cultural dimension to a beach or mudflat holiday without requiring you to forgo nature experiences.
An art garden opened at the entrance to the village in June 2026. It currently displays 11 works of art made from different materials, as well as 6 paintings by regional artists. Guided tours are regularly offered along the Dangast Art Trail. If you would like to enrich your stay with exhibitions, sculptures and a guided tour, these destinations can shape the rhythm of your day.
Choose your accommodation according to your preferred holiday pace
The variety of experiences in Dangast makes it worthwhile to plan your accommodation search carefully. For beach- and water-focused days, the bathing beach, Jade Bay and mudflats take centre stage. Families can also include a guided mudflat walk, the adventure centre at the National Park House and the “Wattbuttjer” playground in their plans. Those looking for more tranquil variety can combine nature with the DanGastQuellbad, Watt'n Sauna or art. A holiday apartment or holiday home in Dangast thus becomes the starting point for the style of holiday that suits your plans together.
