Its free exhibition explores the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Mines of Rammelsberg, Historic Town of Goslar and Upper Harz Water Management System” and includes some interactive displays. The information centre in Walkenried is the first of three centres devoted to this World Heritage Site. A 3D landscape model and a video projection illustrate the transformation of the 3,000-year-old cultural landscape in the western Harz. This brings together two distinct ways of exploring the area: the history of the monastery and the development of a much larger cultural landscape.
A Themed Trail Around the Monastery
The Monastery Discovery Trail is a themed circular route with 13 stops in Walkenried and around the monastery. Illustrated information boards provide details about locations within the medieval monastery precinct. During the high season, a guided walk is also offered on the Monastery Discovery Trail within the medieval monastery precinct.
