Rieste offers a variety of reasons to visit: At Alfsee, water sports and nature are the main attractions, while Lage Monastery has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries. There are also two circular cycling routes of very different lengths. Nature and Landscape at Alfsee
The Alfsee Nature Conservation and Education Center (nbz) in Rieste is an interactive center dedicated to the history, birdlife and landscape dynamics of Alfsee. Its topics connect nature observation with the development and history of the landscape. The nbz also offers seminars, walks, guided tours and courses. Anyone interested in birds and landscapes will find a different way to experience Alfsee here than through sports activities: the focus is on learning and experiencing nature.
Two Circular Cycling Routes Starting at the Alfsee Center
The Rieste circular cycling route “Ort” is 15.36 km long and takes about one hour. The Rieste circular cycling route “Land” covers 26.55 km and takes about two hours. Both start and end at the Alfsee Center.
Water Sports and Other Activities
The Alfsee StrandArena has water-skiing facilities with different levels of difficulty, as well as water-skiing and wakeboarding courses. When planning, you can choose between riding at the facility and taking a course. The StrandArena also has an 18-hole mini-golf course. This offers another activity alongside water sports, so your stay does not have to revolve around just one sport.
The Alfsee Holiday and Adventure Park includes the Germanenland Adventure World. It features climbing poles, water games, an oracle and a maze. Each offers a different way to explore and try things out: physical activity on the climbing poles, water games, and the puzzles and navigation challenges of the oracle and maze. For a holiday with children, these are specific ideas that differ from cycling and water sports.
Pilgrimage and the Rosary Garden in Lage
Lage Monastery in Rieste has been a pilgrimage destination for centuries, attracting pilgrims who come to the Holy Cross of Lage. The Holy Cross dates from the 14th century. The pilgrimage site thus adds a historical and spiritual dimension to the leisure activities at Alfsee. The pilgrimage site of Lage is entered from the west through the Lager Gate.
Next to the monastery is the Rosary Garden, created in 1994 and 1995. It is divided into two areas with cross-shaped paths. The garden contains 20 wayside shrines in total, commemorating the lives of Jesus and Mary. Its design is therefore closely tied to the religious themes of the site. Anyone interested in this aspect of Rieste will find a distinct focus here, different from the active attractions at the StrandArena and in the adventure park.
