Hahnenklee combines the Harz Mountains’ natural environment, distinctive culture and a wide range of experiences. The therapeutic climatic spa resort has existed for more than 130 years and offers five designated terrain therapy hiking trails. Numerous circular and point-to-point hikes begin directly in the village. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether you would like to focus your trip primarily on hiking, culture or the activities at ErlebnisBocksBerg.

Stave Church and Local History Museum: Culture in Hahnenklee

One of the village’s defining buildings is Hahnenklee Stave Church. It was built between 1907 and 1908 over a ten-month construction period, based on the model of older Norwegian stave churches. Spruce wood from the surrounding area was used; the church has 240 seats. It also has a carillon with 49 bells. Regular organ and carillon performances complement the cultural offerings. From May to October, concerts featuring organ music, chamber music and the large tower carillon also take place on Thursdays.

The Hahnenklee Local History Museum has been located in the Kurhaus since May 22, 2016. Historical exhibits convey the history of Hahnenklee-Bockswiese and Upper Harz mining. Anyone who wants to experience not only the landscape during a trip but also learn about the development of the village and its region can include both cultural destinations in their plans.

Hiking Among Lovers’ Benches and Forest History

The Liebesbankweg is a 7-kilometre circular hiking trail around Hahnenklee-Bockswiese. It is the first classified premium hiking trail in the Harz Mountains and in Lower Saxony. Along the trail are 25 handmade benches and numerous art objects. Another special feature is the Auerhahn Cascade on the Liebesbankweg. It is considered the largest pond cascade in the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Upper Harz Water Management”.

The “Mensch & Wald” themed hiking trail offers a different focus. It connects Hahnenklee with Goslar and presents the history of long-forgotten occupations carried out in the forest. This allows different hiking interests to be combined: The Liebesbankweg has its own distinctive features with benches, art objects and the pond cascade, while “Mensch & Wald” focuses on historical forest work.

ErlebnisBocksBerg and Various Day Plans

The nostalgic cable car to ErlebnisBocksBerg starts directly in Hahnenklee’s pedestrian zone. The chairlift begins at the foot of ErlebnisBocksBerg. At the summit is the Zipline Adventure Bocksberg, which can be reached by cable car or chairlift. The offerings also include a 100-metre-long climbing park with seven climbing elements.

The summer toboggan runs also have different focuses. The “Drachenblitz” run is 560 metres long, passes through a dragon cave and has five spirals. The “BocksBergBob” summer toboggan run measures 1,250 metres and has a double spiral. If you are travelling with children of different ages, you can take such specific experience features into account when planning your day without limiting your stay to a single activity.

Which Accommodation Location Suits Your Trip?

The first important consideration is your preferred daily rhythm: The pedestrian zone is the starting point for the cable car, the Liebesbankweg offers a 7-kilometre circular trail, and “Mensch & Wald” leads as far as Goslar. If you would also like to visit the stave church, the local history museum or the concerts held on Thursdays, you can compare your personal travel priorities when searching for accommodation. This turns the many offerings into more than an arbitrary programme, creating a suitable combination of nature, history and shared activities.

For the overarching travel overview: Goslar.
