The fifth stage of the Kassel-Steig trail begins at the Rathaus bus stop in Staufenberg-Landwehrhagen and leads 11.5 km to Niestetal-Heiligenrode. It is classified as easy and passes the ski jump on Sandershäuser Berg, Gut Ellenbach and the Niestetal forester’s lodge. East of Landwehrhagen, an old oak tree stands beside county road K 222; the path to the ski jump offers panoramic views.
Along the Kassel-Steig route, the St. Peter’s Church in Landwehrhagen, numerous half-timbered houses and the wide historic village street are points of interest. St. Peter’s Church has a historic organ that was originally built by Stephan Heeren in 1797.
The surroundings of Landwehrhagen include Sensenstein, Schönfeld Castle, Hampe Tower and Castle Bastion. In the wider regional area around Landwehrhagen are Bilstein, Hirschberg, Dörnberg and Hoher Hagen.
