A castle and chapel tell the story of the town

Around 1220, there was a castle in Fresenburg. It was used to secure the borders against the Count of Tecklenburg and to collect tolls on the Ems. In 1422, the castle chapel was moved from the castle, which had already long been destroyed and abandoned, to its present location in the village of Fresenburg. Its use changed over time: after being used for a period as a school and meeting room, the chapel is once again used for worship today.
