Steinbach (Taunus) is marked by historic landmarks, recurring festivals and distinctive trail connections. It also has two weekly markets held on set days and a traditional baking-house experience. Local History and Landmarks
The historic Protestant St. George’s Church is in Steinbach’s old town centre. Another well-known local landmark is the “Bütt”: Steinbach’s landmark is a fountain on Freien Platz. Both provide a specific starting point for discovering Steinbach’s local history and its named landmarks—the church in the old town centre, and the fountain in the square.
The annual calendar is also shaped by regular local events. Steinbach’s town festival takes place every year on a weekend in June on Bahnstraße. Steinbach’s Kerb festival is celebrated on the second weekend in October; its tradition dates back to the inauguration of St. George’s Chapel. The Christmas market was established in 1981 and takes place on the second weekend of Advent. These recurring events therefore fall at different times of the year. If you want to plan your trip around one of these festivals, check the specific event dates before your visit.
Trails and Outdoor Discoveries
Two trail routes meet at Äppelwoibrückchen: it lies at a junction of the Regionalpark circular route and a direct trail connecting Frankfurt-Praunheim with Steinbach and the Taunus. The little bridge is also a rest area with small places to sit. This spot thus combines a described trail junction with an opportunity to take a break.
In September 2026, a roughly two-kilometre bat educational trail with an initial four stations was created in Steinbach Forest. Its topics are the forest, its habitats and bats.
Weekly Market and Baking House
There are two weekly market dates at different locations: the weekly market is held on Tuesdays at Freien Platz and on Saturdays at St.-Avertin-Platz. The day of the week and location clearly distinguish the two markets. You can use these details to plan which market fits your stay.
The baking house in Steinbach adds a distinctive local touch. Following an old tradition, visitors can bake and enjoy their own bread there. It is a different experience from visiting a market: here, baking your own bread is the focus, while the markets’ weekly schedule and two different locations help you plan your week.
Steinbach and the Wider Hochtaunus Travel Region
If you want to explore destinations beyond Steinbach in the Hochtaunus, there are also attractions outside the town. The Hessenpark Open-Air Museum is in Neu-Anspach in the Hochtaunuskreis district. A family trail there shows children and adults together how people lived and worked in the past, and what their homes were like. Also in the wider Hochtaunus travel region, the Limes Experience Trail runs for more than 30 kilometres from Glashütten to Ober-Mörlen. It follows the route of the Limes hiking trail or the Limes cycle path. Check current route conditions before setting out. These regional destinations complement Steinbach’s landmarks, markets and trails, but are not located in Steinbach itself.
