Hiking trails of varying lengths

The moderately challenging Fürth–Grasellenbach adventure trail is 15.7 kilometres long and passes, among other places, the Siegfriedbrunnen. A shorter option, also rated moderate, is the 10.8-kilometre Wahlen circular trail. It leads through the districts of Wahlen and Gras-Ellenbach. The different route lengths and types help you choose a hike that suits your planned day; they do not provide any further information about duration or elevation gain.

One hiking idea of its own is the Geopark trail “Sagenhafter Schauplatz Grasellenbach” (“Grasellenbach: A Legendary Setting”). It follows the Nibelungensteig through sections of forest and meadows to the Siegfriedbrunnen. There are also numerous hiking trails around Grasellenbach. If you prefer cycling, you can explore the natural areas by bike. Alongside the named routes, there are plenty of other options for days spent being active outdoors.

Geology, play and nature on the Tromm

At four stations, the Geozentrum Tromm illustrates how red sandstone and granite formed, were quarried and used. The stations are connected by a 22-kilometre circular route that can be explored on foot or by bike. Its focus on geology combines accessible information about rocks with a longer route. Other experiences offer their own distinctive attractions: Wahlen’s Spielgolfanlage is an adventure mini-golf course in the Grasellenbach district of Wahlen. On the Tromm, the Naturspielort Tromm is an area for play, reflection and relaxation. There are three Kneipp facilities in Gras-Ellenbach. These activities complement the hiking and geopark themes, offering different ideas for holiday days planned together.

Culture and history in the districts

Hammelbach is home to a Gothic chapel ruin dating from the 14th century. Those interested in historic buildings will find a different focus here than on the hiking trails or at the Geozentrum. During a costumed tour of Hammelbach, the character of pastor’s daughter Karoline Bus appears, played by Anja Hahn.

The cultural programme also includes Hof-Theater-Tromm, with a varied line-up of cabaret, children’s theatre, music and drama. In Hammelbach, the annual Schwarzpulverrally attracts motorcyclists from all over Germany. Theatre, historic sites and the rally each offer their own distinctive attractions.
