Cycle routes start at 40 kilometres and include self-guided or guided multi-day tours with good opportunities to stop for a break or a meal. These options offer a different scale of planning from the roughly 10-kilometre circular route near Altdöbern.
More than 580 kilometres of signposted cycle routes connect the regions between the Spreewald and the Kmehlener Berge. At a regional level, they link southern Brandenburg with Saxony and northern Brandenburg. The district’s landscape is also changing: in the south of Oberspreewald-Lausitz, the filling of former open-cast mines is creating a waterscape with more than 20 artificial lakes, known as the Lusatian Lake District.
Lübbenau/Spreewald is also part of the district’s cultural offering, with a historic old town that includes a Neoclassical palace ensemble. Together with the range of hiking and cycling options, this shows the breadth of choice in the region without suggesting that the individual destinations are alike.
