Premnitz between the lake, the Havel and local history

Premnitz Lake was formed in 1913, when a sudden inrush of water brought clay mining to a halt at the former clay pit of the “Märkische Ziegelei und Tonwarenfabrik” (Markish Brickworks and Pottery Factory). Its formation is therefore part of Premnitz’s industrial history. Premnitz residents still use the lake as a natural swimming area. A circular hiking trail with places to sit has been laid out around Premnitz Lake. This also makes the lake a destination for a walk: the circular trail offers a different way to spend time by the water than swimming. Seating adds to the trail’s amenities.

Walks and cycling route

The Havel promenade in Premnitz invites you to stroll, with its observation tower and sculpture trail. The banks of the Havel also invite you to take a walk; the sculpture trail is in the centre of Premnitz. The Havel banks and the sculptures thus offer specific starting points for a stay that includes walks.

The Havel Cycle Route no longer passes directly through Premnitz. If you are including it in your plans, check the current route in advance, as routes may change.

Local history and buildings

The Lucke-Hof and several 19th-century town houses have been preserved along Alte Hauptstraße in Premnitz. The Protestant church in Premnitz was built in 1858 in the Neo-Romanesque style; the stone arch bridge in Premnitz was built in 1918. These places offer different ways to explore local history: preserved buildings along a street, a church with a named architectural style, and a bridge with a known year of construction. Festivals, culture and other activities

The traditional Dachsbergfest local festival takes place every year on the last weekend of August around the rotunda on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße.
