The spa park stretches between Bad Liebenwerda town centre and the Weinberge district, along the Black Elster and Dresdener Straße. Concerts at the bandstand have been a tradition for 187 years and are a regular part of the town’s events calendar. Together with the restored town centre and its more than 800 years of history, the park, music and local history reveal different sides of the town.

Spa Park and Historic Town Centre

A town walk leads from the market square, past the town hall and Lubwart Tower, to the spa park. The route passes through the restored town centre, whose history goes back more than 800 years. Another tour starts at the district museum at the foot of Lubwart Tower, passes through the restored town centre and its landmarks, and ends at the REISS Museum. This walk is listed as taking two hours. The two descriptions focus on different things: one starts and ends at the market square and spa park, while the other starts at the district museum and ends at the REISS Museum.

After its renovation, Lubwart Tower reopened to residents and visitors to Bad Liebenwerda in 2011. If you plan to visit the tower, check visitor access in advance. Another historic landmark is the Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart: built in 1883, it is located at Südring 2.

Culture and Nature Themes

The completely redesigned Central German Marionette Theatre Museum presents the history of the Kasper puppet in puppet theatre in its “Kaspers Welten” (“Kasper’s Worlds”) exhibition. At the Nature Park House, visitors can learn about the nature park’s landscape, plant life and wildlife, including the capercaillie, a species threatened with extinction. In Bad Liebenwerda, cultural history and nature themes offer different options for planning a day out.

The Nature Park House is accessible to wheelchair users and has ramp access, a car park, a courtyard and a toilet. If these facilities are important for your visit, confirm their current availability in advance. The Bad Liebenwerda Tourist Information Office rents out bicycles with 26- and 28-inch wheels as well as e-bikes, and offers route suggestions. Check the current availability of bicycles before your trip.

Getting Around on Foot or by Bike

The Three Rivers Tour is an eight-kilometre hike through the spa town, with three rivers lining the route. The stated duration is 120 minutes. Route distances and details may change, so check them before setting out. Compared with the two-hour town walk starting at the district museum, the stated duration is the same, but the character of the tours differs: this is a hike through the spa town, while the other focuses on the town centre and museums.
