Protected nature at Murner Filz and Lake Eiselfing

Murner Filz is part of the “Murn, Murner Filz and Lake Eiselfing” FFH area. The area covers more than 500 hectares in total; Murner Filz is under special protection. Rare yellow-bellied toads and great crested newts live there. Lake Eiselfing is also part of the FFH area and is specially protected as a habitat for animal and plant life.

If you want to explore nature at your own pace, you can plan walks and hikes along the Murn and through Murner Filz during your stay. The paths offer peace and relaxation, as well as ecological insights into local animal and plant life. This gives the area a different character from an outing focused on sports or culture: here, the emphasis is on the landscape and its habitats.

Paths, tree species and discoveries for children

A nature trail runs along the Schwarzmoosbach, where you can find more than 100 native and non-native tree species. An unusual wooden bridge is another feature of the route, and two playgrounds add to what’s on offer. This gives families a way to combine learning about nature with opportunities to play, without making the outing solely about looking at trees.

Another way to explore Eiselfing is the Eiselfinger Hoamatrundn. This varied tour leads through the municipality and includes a children’s quiz. Information boards provide additional details at selected points. The quiz and information boards offer different experiences: one invites children to take part, while the others provide extra explanations at specific locations. No fixed route length or duration is specified; when planning, the main consideration is whether you’re looking for a tour with a quiz and information stops.

Bike park and kart track

The “Weihertrail” bike park is located by the Eiselfing municipal sports hall and is a sports and leisure facility for children, young people and adults. Its beginner-friendly route offers a different starting point from the section for more experienced riders. If you’re travelling with people of varying skill levels, you can take this difference into account when choosing a sporty outing.

Another sporting option is Kart 2000 in Eiselfing. The modern kart track has indoor and outdoor circuits. Eiselfing therefore offers different ways to enjoy an active experience: the bike park and kart track focus on movement, while the paths along the Murn and through Murner Filz put nature and tranquillity first.

Church, art and architectural history

During a visit to Eiselfing, it’s worth stopping by St Rupert’s Parish Church. There is a Pietà on the left side altar. Its signature and the date 1758 on the back identify it as a work by Ignaz Günther. For visitors interested in culture, this specific artwork is a special focal point of a visit to the church.

The rectory is also one of the village’s notable buildings. It was built in 1888/1889 as a two-storey solid building with a pitched roof, knee wall and articulated façade, and is listed as a historic monument. Its architectural form and listed status offer a different perspective on Eiselfing from its natural and leisure attractions: here, the focus is on built heritage.
