Swimming at Erlenweiher Pond
Erlenweiher bathing lake covers almost 1.8 hectares and offers swimming in a natural body of water. The bathing area has a designated non-swimmer section and several pieces of play equipment for children. The lake therefore offers several options: swimming, a separate area for non-swimmers, and play facilities. Swimming conditions may vary.
Strandcafé Treibholz is next to the bathing area and serves drinks and snacks. If you plan to visit, check in advance whether the café is open. This makes it easy to combine swimming with a relaxed break without assuming fixed opening hours.
Bürgerpark: Former Factory Site and Solar Flowers
Bürgerpark is on the site of a former porcelain factory, by the Fichtelnaab Cycle Path. The park has loungers and Smartflower solar flowers that generate electricity. The combination of a former factory site and electricity-generating solar flowers gives the park a different focus from the bathing area or historic sites. Park facilities may change.
Walking and Cycling Routes
The signposted Bankerlrunde is a circular route over 10 km long through the countryside of the southern Steinwald Nature Park, in the municipality of Krummennaab. It runs via Stockau to Krummennaab and can also be started in the centres of Krummennaab or Thumsenreuth. It offers a specific way to experience the countryside on a circular walk; before setting off, it is advisable to check local route conditions.
Bürgerpark is on the Fichtelnaab Cycle Path. Another cycle route should be distinguished from it: this route starts in Krummennaab at the junction with the Fichtelnaab Cycle Path and heads towards Windischeschenbach. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between a signposted circular route and a cycle ride with a stated direction, without treating the two routes as one and the same.
Churches and Trautenberg Castle
St. Leonhard in Krummennaab and St. Ägidius in Thumsenreuth were shared churches. From 1663 until 1930 and 1935, respectively, they were used jointly and alternately by the two major Christian denominations. This shared use is central to the historical significance of the two churches. The Catholic parish church of St. Ägidius in Thumsenreuth was built in 1935; it houses the newest acanthus altar in the Upper Palatinate.
The ruins of Trautenberg Castle lie northeast of Krummennaab. Visible remains include rubble mounds from the former buildings, the neck ditch and part of the shield wall. Remains of the walls of the former Trautenberg Castle can also be found beyond the railway bridge. The churches and castle therefore offer a different focus from the experiences by the water: here, the emphasis is on churches once used jointly and surviving traces of former buildings.
