Seehof Palace: state rooms, ceiling paintings and water features
Visitors can now tour nine state rooms and their furnishings at Seehof Palace. They have reopened following extensive restoration work. The White Hall also features a virtuoso ceiling painting by Giuseppe Appiani. Visitors interested in architecture and art will find specific details here to look out for during their tour.
The water features add a seasonal highlight. They are scheduled to operate from May through 7 October, with demonstrations every hour on the hour from 10 am to 5 pm daily. Before travelling, check whether this schedule applies to your visit date. Under Prince-Bishop Adam Friedrich von Seinsheim (1757–1779), the grand cascade at Seehof Palace, with its sculptural programme by Ferdinand Tietz, and the double-flight staircase were built. Since 1995, following extensive restoration, the water features can once again be experienced much as they were more than 200 years ago.
The palace museum is scheduled to open for the season from 1 April to 31 October, with a winter closure from 1 November to 31 March. Check the current opening hours before visiting.
Church art and seasonal events
The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary has a Baroque stucco ceiling by Johann Jakob Vogel, dating from 1708. Together with the ceiling painting in the White Hall, it offers a concrete comparison between two art forms: stucco here, a painted ceiling there. Architectural details like these give a visit to Memmelsdorf a clear cultural focus.
Local celebrations may also be of interest when planning your trip. The Memmelsdorf Christmas market takes place every year on the third weekend of Advent; check the dates for the relevant year.
