Burghaslach combines trails through the Franconian hills with churches, castles and cultural activities. Around the town, hills, fields, meadows and forests give way to one another; the landscape is ideal for hiking and cycling. There are more than 90 kilometres of hiking trails in the municipality. Hiking Trails and Cycling Routes

The Fürstenforst nature trail starts at the Fürstenforst forest playground or recreation area. It offers insights into the forest ecosystem, its plant and animal life, sustainable forestry and wood as a renewable resource. The forest discovery trail is a loop through the municipal forest, with plenty of information and display boards; it starts at the forest playground in Fürstenforst. The market town presents various discovery trails as excursion destinations for the whole family.

For cycle tourists, the approximately 68-kilometre Haslachtal–Reiche Ebrach long-distance cycle route runs via Scheinfeld, Burghaslach and Pommersfelden to Bamberg. As the Steigerwald cross-trail, it connects Bamberg with Burghaslach via Hirschaid, Mühlhausen and Schlüsselfeld. The different distances provide a useful guide for planning: the nature trail is about two kilometres long, and the long-distance cycle route around 68 kilometres.

The Drei-Franken-Stein Trail also passes through Burghaslach. It runs through the administrative districts of Upper Franconia, Middle Franconia and Lower Franconia and is marked throughout with the Drei-Franken-Stein symbol. Check trail conditions before setting out. The landscape around Burghaslach provides a suitable setting for choosing between walks, hikes and cycling routes.

Castles, Churches and Culture

Burghaslach Castle is one of the town’s special attractions. The churches are also worth a closer look: St. Mauritius Parish Church was built as early as 1336, and a visit to St. Aegidius Church is recommended. The market town’s special attractions also include the moated castle in Breitenlohe. Fürstenforst Castle has a draw well and can only be viewed from the outside.

The cultural trail introduces visitors, via 22 steles distributed throughout the municipality, to natural monuments, famous personalities, notable buildings, and castles and churches that have shaped Burghaslach’s history. Another cultural venue is the Kulturtankstelle in Burghaslach. It is used mainly for cultural events organised by the Kulturtankstelle working group and for adult education courses. This means local and natural history sit alongside a programme of events and courses.

Seasons and Short Breaks

The spring market is held every year on the penultimate Sunday in April, and the Christmas market every year on the Saturday before the second Sunday of Advent. Check the official calendar for the exact date before travelling. Kirchweih festivals are traditionally celebrated in the market town of Burghaslach; their dates vary by district and should also be checked in advance.
