Traubing – Weekly Market, History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Traubing
Traubing combines a weekly market held every Saturday throughout the year with historical connections and several cycling routes. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment in Traubing, choose based on your plans: would you rather focus on the market and local history, or on cycling tours?
Weekly Market, History and Cultural Life
The Traubing weekly market takes place year-round on Saturdays in the forecourt of the property at Weilheimer Straße 8. The site is assigned to parcel numbers 92 and 92/1 in the Traubing cadastral district. Archaeological remains from the Late Middle Ages and the early modern period lie beneath the ground in the area of the Catholic parish church of St. Mariä Geburt and its predecessor building. Traubing was first mentioned in 1005 as “Trupinga” in a document from Benediktbeuern. The archaeological remains and the first written mention relate to different historical periods. The Traubing brass band also contributes to the cultural life of the village.
Cycling Tours with Different Route Profiles
Route 34, “Into the Tutzing Hinterland,” is an easy, 23.4-kilometre circular cycling tour. It leads south from Aschering and continues to Traubing; at Ilkahöhe, it offers a beautiful view over Lake Starnberg, the entire StarnbergAmmersee region and the Alpine range in the background. Route 06, “Across Traubing’s Heights,” is a very easy circular tour covering 10.5 kilometres and taking 2:10 hours. It leads from Feldafing via Aschering and the Höhenweg to Traubing, then back to the starting point in Feldafing.
The X8 Landscape Tour is 10.8 kilometres long and takes 2:30 hours. Its route runs from Traubinger Straße via Traubing and Aschering to Maisinger See. Although it is almost the same length, X8 takes 20 minutes longer than Route 06; the routes also differ: Route 06 returns to Feldafing, while X8 leads to Maisinger See. Weather conditions can affect the suitability of Route 06, and local path conditions may change on X8. It is therefore a good idea to check the weather and path conditions before setting out.
Getting Around by Bus
Bus route 958 runs hourly from Tutzing via Traubing and Machtlfing to Andechs; the journey takes 20 minutes. Check the timetable before travelling so you can factor the connection into your plans.
Tutzing as a Broader Travel Destination
The wider destination of Tutzing offers additional landscape and cultural attractions. The park of Tutzing Castle lies on the shore of Lake Starnberg; its extensive grounds and centuries-old trees make it a unique natural monument. Tutzing is also the starting point for a network of hiking routes totalling 230 kilometres. The marked local trails there are between 5 and 15 kilometres long and lead through the village.
Cultural highlights include the Tutzing Brahms Days, held annually in October since 1997, with five concert dates. The Evangelical Academy of Tutzing hosts conferences, panel discussions, concerts, readings and lectures; according to the academy, its events are open to everyone. The Tutzing Cultural Theatre regularly hosts theatre performances, concerts, readings, film screenings and other cultural events. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can weigh up these highlights: Traubing’s local history and cycling routes versus Tutzing’s distinct hiking and cultural attractions.
