Church, Fountain and Museum

Weilbach’s Catholic Church of St John dates from 1789. The Three-Spout Fountain, with its Baroque relief, stands in the town centre. At the northwestern edge of town is the Mud Mill, built in 1585, with its Renaissance gable. These architectural sights are therefore not all concentrated in one central location: the Mud Mill is specifically located at the edge of town, while the fountain marks the town centre.

In Weilbach’s district of Weckbach, the Weckbach Village Museum is housed in a former school building. Its exhibition covers the church, municipality, school, associations, household life, and agriculture and forestry. Larger objects, including agricultural equipment, are displayed in a museum barn and outdoors. The museum is listed as open on the last Sunday of the month from 2 to 4 p.m.; check before your visit whether these hours are still current. A carillon can be heard daily at the Old School Courtyard by Weilbach Town Hall. If you would like to hear it at a particular time, check in advance when to go.

Woodland Destinations and Routes around Gotthardsberg

Weilbach Forest includes destinations such as Hallsteine, Wolfgangsee and Zigeunersteine. The Weilbach Forest Discovery Trail is nearby, on Gotthardsberg. It has twelve stations with peepholes and tree identification panels. The trail was designed for young families, but is also suitable for anyone interested and for groups. Also nearby, the Gothic pillar basilica known as Gotthardsruine stands on a hilltop on Gotthardsberg.

Another route leads out of town into the Ohrnbach Valley: circular route W 6 begins at the Three-Spout Fountain in the town centre and crosses Mudbrücke on its way into the valley. The starting point, bridge crossing and direction of this walk are clearly specified. As trail markings and conditions can change, it is a good idea to check the current route before setting out.

Cycling and Vineyard Terraces

The Miltenberg/Amorbach cycle path runs directly through Weilbach. Three other cycle routes are described as running through the municipality: the Limes Cycle Route, the Three-Country Cycle Route and the Main-Tauber-Franconian Cycling Figure Eight. This distinction is useful when planning: Weilbach itself is named for the Miltenberg/Amorbach cycle path, while the other three routes are described as passing through the municipality. Vineyard terraces also lie on the lower slope of Weilbachkopf, where wine has been grown again since 1975.

Culture and Landscape in Miltenberg

In Miltenberg itself, the Stadt Museum presents local and regional history in three historic half-timbered houses on the market square, known as Schnatterloch. As another distinct cultural offering, the Miltenberg district holds its Culture Weeks every year from mid-September. The programme includes concerts of classical and contemporary music, as well as jazz and electronic music events; dates vary. Häckerwirtschaften (seasonal wine taverns) and wine festivals also offer opportunities to discover regional wine in the district, though opening days and event dates differ.

The Miltenberg district lies between the Odenwald and Spessart ranges and is characterised by deeply incised river and stream valleys. This regional landscape complements, but does not replace, Weilbach’s specific attractions: local history, woodland destinations, vineyard terraces and cycling routes with different geographical scopes are the main features of Weilbach itself.
