Getting around on the S1

The S1 serves the Unterschleißheim and Lohhof stops. From both, it runs directly to Feldmoching, with connections to the U2, as well as to Munich Central Station and Ostbahnhof. Munich Airport, Marienplatz and the city of Freising are also reachable from both stops in about 20 minutes. If train connections shape your travel plans, you can take these routes into account when choosing where to stay. Check which stop is relevant for your own journeys; the connections listed apply to both S1 stops.

Local history and remembrance

The Unterschleißheim Town Museum presents history and art across around 200 m² of exhibition space. Its compact exhibition space gives the subject matter a clear focus: the development of the town and artistic content take centre stage. If your trip brings together several interests, you can consider a museum visit as a cultural highlight alongside the historic places of remembrance.

A special place of remembrance lies right next to the Unterschleißheim vocational and technical upper secondary school. A memorial consisting of four flax fields and seven portrait stelae commemorates the fate of forced labourers. The 500-metre Path of Remembrance connects the memorial with the learning centre. You can take its length into account when planning your day; at the same time, the path gives the subject a clearly defined setting. The Lohhof flax roasting plant also offers a glimpse into local history: at this place of remembrance, a stele with a QR code provides access to a virtual reconstruction of the flax roasting plant, along with historical information and photos. The Old Church of St. Ulrich offers another historical perspective. Together with the “Alter Wirt” inn to the north, it still forms the centre of what was once the farming village of Unterschleißheim. These two examples offer different perspectives on the history of technology and the village’s historic centre.

Water and activity

For swimming, the aquariush Badewelt has a 25-metre pool with six lanes. The pool’s dimensions and number of lanes make it a concrete option for anyone who wants to include swimming in their trip. The “Valentinsquelle” has a different connection to water: it lies in Valentinspark on the southern edge of Unterschleißheim and bubbles up from a depth of almost 2,000 metres. Following a medical and balneological assessment, it was officially recognised as a medicinal spring in 2016.

A large climbing facility was completed in Rolf-Zeitler-Park, formerly Valentinspark, at the beginning of summer 2024. Colourful tree trunks, wooden ladders, a monkey-bar bridge and a net tunnel invite visitors to balance, crawl, swing and climb. The individual features give you a clear picture of the activity on offer and what the facility includes. Alongside the swimming pool, it offers another opportunity for active experiences beyond culture and local history.
