History
Kaufering has a medieval history associated with the Guelphs: Welf V died in 1120 at Kaufering Castle, the site of which is located next to the church.
After the railway was built in 1872, Kaufering became an important railway station. The Munich–Buchloe, Bobingen–Kaufering and Kaufering–Landsberg am Lech lines meet there.
The rerouting of the medieval salt road away from Kaufering contributed to the rise of neighboring Landsberg am Lech and the decline of Kaufering Castle.
