Haiming combines architectural history with routes that offer different ways to explore the village and its surroundings. The new Haiming Castle was built above the castle pond between 1838 and 1840. The chapel, history trail and cycling connections offer additional points of interest, depending on whether you are more interested in historic places or active days on holiday.

The Castle, Chapel and Local History

Count Sigmund von Berchem, the lord of the manor at the time, had the new Haiming Castle built above the castle pond between 1838 and 1840. The construction period gives this Haiming landmark a clear historical connection. St Anthony’s Chapel also tells a story with a precisely dated occasion: it was dedicated to St Anthony of Padua on 13 June 1902.

The Niedergern History Trail draws attention to the history of individual farms and houses. In the Haiming area, information boards on public and private buildings provide information about old house names and the history of the respective farms or houses. This puts the focus not only on individual buildings, but also on the names and stories associated with them.

Niedergottsau is also part of the municipality of Haiming. There, the Church of the Assumption of Mary was built in 1443 and substantially extended and remodelled in 1760. The two dates mark the long period between the original construction and a later extensive renovation. When planning your trip, these phases of construction add another historical subject to Haiming’s castle and local history.

Cycling Routes Connected to the Area

Cycling is another way to include Haiming in your holiday plans. The Inn-Salzach Cycle Route passes through Haiming. The Three Lakes Tour runs through Haiming and Niedergottsau, including both places in the municipality along its route. If you like to plan your days around different interests, you can consider the local history and the two cycling routes as separate sources of inspiration.

The route descriptions each have a different focus: Haiming is named directly as a stop along the Inn-Salzach Cycle Route, while the Three Lakes Tour also passes through Niedergottsau. This can help you decide which places to include in your travel plans. What matters is which interests you want to prioritise during your stay.

The Wider Natural Landscape of the Altötting Destination

The wider landscape also includes the destination of Altötting. The Altötting district lies along the Inn and Salzach rivers. Its landscape is characterised by a plain about ten kilometres wide, through which the Inn flows; lush green hills border it to the north and south. Together, the river, plain and hills create a varied natural landscape in the region.

Another natural feature is the internationally significant wetland and nature reserve of the Lower Inn between Haiming and Neuhaus. It provides a habitat for migrating, overwintering and breeding marsh and water birds. More than 25 different bird species associated with water and wetlands breed there. For those interested in nature, this regional perspective complements the architectural and local history with the importance of the river and wetlands.

Plan Your Stay Around Your Interests

When choosing a holiday apartment in Haiming, you can start by considering which subjects you want to shape your stay. The castle, chapel, history trail and pilgrimage church offer specific historical points of interest; the two cycling routes mentioned provide additional ideas for active days. If you are interested in the wider natural landscape, you can also include the landscape of the Altötting destination in your plans. This lets you choose the focus you want without limiting your trip to just one way of exploring.
