Obersteben
Obersteben is a good starting point for anyone who would like to combine their stay with hikes, expansive views and a cycling tour through the countryside. Several paths lead through the village or to prominent destinations in its surroundings. There are also historical traces and a beer garden for a break. When choosing your holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether you mainly want to explore the area on foot, ride an e-bike or combine different experiences.
Hiking Trails through Obersteben
The Hirschhügel Trail US 32 leaves Bad Steben via the road to Obersteben. It passes completely through Obersteben and turns right shortly before the edge of the village. The trail then leads to the Wasserscheidenweg and on to Friedelhöhe. Almost along its entire route, the Hirschhügel Trail offers magnificent expansive views and impressive panoramic vistas. Anyone who enjoys combining longer stretches with changing landscape impressions can take this route into account when planning their day.
Another option is the Jungbrunnen Trail HRW 1. It reaches the Frankenwarte on the 679-metre-high Hirschhügel. The Silla Trail US 33 is 12.9 km long and an easy hiking trail. This gives you different hiking options: you can choose a trail with prominent viewpoints or include a specific route with a stated length and difficulty level in your plans.
Frankenwarte and Landscape Experiences
The Frankenwarte is located between Bad Steben and Geroldsgrün and can be reached via various hiking trails. From there, the panoramic view extends to the surrounding heights of the Höllental, Lichtenberg and Bad Steben. Please note the seasonal opening schedule when visiting: from 1 April to 1 November, the Frankenwarte is open continuously; during the winter months, it is closed.
The Obersteben–Schwedenwacht–Friedelhöhe landscape area is also particularly significant for nature-based recreation. The Silla site between Langenbach and Obersteben adds a historical dimension to the nature experiences. It is associated with a former chapel. Along a former church path, an embankment with a fountain rises in a meadow. These traces can be included as a quiet discovery during a day of hiking, without reducing the site to a single historic building.
Discover Obersteben by E-Bike
For cyclists, E-Bike Tour 1, “A First Ride into Hell”, follows the road through Obersteben and then back to the outskirts of Bad Steben. After Obersteben, it continues along Route No. 5 of the Bad Steben bike network. A regional cycling tour also leads to Obersteben, passing colourful meadows and the Frankenwarte with its impressive panoramic view; the return route leads through the Seifengrund to Bad Steben.
This gives you a choice between different travel ideas: a day of hiking focuses on trails and viewpoints, while an e-bike tour connects Obersteben with other landscape areas and Bad Steben. This distinction is helpful when searching for a holiday apartment, as you can choose the location based on which activities should form the focus of your stay.
A Break in the Village
Tommy's beer garden is located in the Obersteben district of Bad Steben and has a trampoline and a football field. Those travelling with children can keep this place in mind as a specific idea for a break. Together with the hiking trails, viewpoints and cycling tours, this creates a destination that combines active pursuits with relaxed stops along the way.
A holiday apartment in Obersteben is therefore particularly suitable for travel plans that aim to explore the surrounding area as diversely as possible. When choosing your accommodation, consider which of the experiences mentioned are most important to you, and use Obersteben as a reference point for planning the rest of your holiday.
