Another route to the observation tower starts from the car park at the edge of Veitlahm towards Kulmbach: from there, a hiking trail with a connected nature and learning trail leads directly to the tower on Patersberg. This lets you choose between a circular hike that connects to other trails and a route whose destination is the observation tower.

The history of Wernstein Castle dates back to 1370. At that time, the Lords of Künßberg built a fortified house on the basalt outcrop of Bärenstein, also known as Bernstein; the present-day castle later developed from it. The history links a specific place with the building’s long development.

For a cultural outing in Kulmbach, the German Tin Figure Museum at Plassenburg Castle offers a collection of more than 300,000 individual figures, arranged in around 150 dioramas.
