Discover Braunersberg: Trails, Nature and Excursion Destinations

Braunersberg is an appealing starting point for anyone who would like to combine their stay with hiking, nature and a variety of excursions. Several signposted trails lead through or past the district. The natural areas around Obernsees and Obernsees Thermal Spa are also nearby. This allows you to plan your trip entirely according to your preferred pace: with a longer circular hike, a shorter tour with an opportunity to stop for refreshments, or a relaxing day trip.

Hiking Trails with Different Features

The Mohrenstein circular trail is particularly varied. It leads from Obernsees via Braunersberg, the Knockhütte and Truppach to Obernsees Thermal Spa and then back to Obernsees. The trail is 7 km long, has an elevation gain of 120 metres and takes around 3 hours. The trail marker is a green ring; the circular route through Braunersberg is signposted in both directions with this symbol. After Braunersberg, the route follows the course of the Busbach back to the starting point at the festival grounds.

If you are looking for a different type of trail, you can plan the Cuckoo Trail “To the Knockhütte”. The signposted trail is approximately 9 km long and takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes. After the Knockhütte, it leads steeply downhill to Braunersberg. From the district, the trail crosses the Ehrlichbach, runs over the Burgleite and passes the Untere Mühle on its way towards Busbach. The Lindig circular trail also offers a special view of the district: above the hamlet of Gries, it provides a view of Braunersberg. The Schönfeld circular trail runs above the districts of Braunersberg and Gries and then follows a forest path back to the starting point in Schönfeld. This provides different perspectives of the surrounding area. At the wayside cross, there is a bench for prayer or relaxation. Nature Between Streams and Protected Areas

The “Knock bei Obernsees” nature reserve is located in the surrounding area between Obernsees and Schönfeld. It covers approximately 14 hectares and is another fixed point of reference for the landscape around Braunersberg. The “Ehrlichbachaue bei Obernsees” FFH area lies north of the district along the Ehrlichbach. The Ehrlichbach is also called the Busbach. You will therefore encounter both names when finding your way around the trails and natural areas.

Knockhütte and Thermal Spa as Excursion Destinations

In the surrounding area, the Knockhütte offers drinks and snacks, play facilities for children, an e-bike charging station, a barbecue area and shelter for hikers. This can be an interesting stopping point for families when different age groups need a break with a variety of options. Obernsees Thermal Spa complements the range of excursions with indoor and outdoor areas, various pools and water areas, a sauna complex, attractions for children, a spacious wellness area and restaurants.
