Rococo at St. Dionysius Parish Church
St. Dionysius Parish Church is considered one of the best-preserved rural Rococo churches in Swabia and is Fünfstetten’s landmark. Its history dates back to the 11th century, when Bishop Gundekar II consecrated a church dedicated to St. Dionysius. The present parish church bears the same name and shapes the character of the area as a cultural destination.
The church’s unified furnishings offer a particularly vivid impression of the Rococo period. Created between 1760 and 1770, they include ceiling frescoes and altar paintings by Johann Baptist Enderle. St. Dionysius thus brings together both a long ecclesiastical history and a cohesive ensemble of furnishings. Hiking the circular trail into the Schwalb Valley
The “From Fünfstetten into the Schwalb Valley” circular hiking trail, Monheimer Alb Hiking Trail No. 15, is 12.7 kilometres long, with an estimated duration of about three hours. This gives you a useful indication when planning the trail as a standalone activity. The scenery changes along the route: it leads through woodland alongside the Schwalb, past rugged rocks and through deeply incised sunken lanes. The hike thus combines waterways, wooded stretches and distinctive landforms.
The trail also passes a historic site: the rectory in Fünfstetten, built in 1792 as a Teutonic Order castle. The scenery changes again on the return leg. The route crosses a hill with dry grassland used as a sheep pasture, which offers a view. In addition to woodland and sunken lanes, this open stretch is another part of the circular route.
