Mühlau: Hiking Trails, Alpine Pastures and Exceptional Views
Mühlau, a district of Schleching, combines a variety of hiking destinations with distinctive alpine pasture and landscape experiences. In the Hochplatte area, the “7 Rivers Trail” runs between Mühlau and Lake Zellersee, along with another trail from Mühlau to the “Beautiful View”. On the route to Lake Zellersee, numerous small streams and springs are crossed. This gives you various ideas for holiday days when you want to focus on a hike, observing nature or special viewpoints.
Hiking trails with various starting points
The Hochplatte summit hike begins at the Dalsenalm car park in Mühlau. Another option is the Kampenwand summit hike, which starts at the Dalsen hiking car park and initially leads towards Steinberg-Alm. Anyone choosing the Weitlahnerkopf as their destination begins at the Mühlau hiking car park. The hike passes the small “Floderer” waterfall and continues to the Vorderen and Hinteren Dalsen alpine pastures.
The route from Mühlau via Dalsenalm to Sachrang also features distinctive waterfalls: first, the 15-metre-high “Ochsensprung” lies along the trail, followed later by the 49-metre-high “Floderer” before the Dalsen alpine pastures are reached. The Ramsen circular trail offers a different perspective. There is a signposted detour to the “Vogelschau”, which provides a view of the Schleching valley.
Alpine pastures, mountain heights and regional specialities
The Vorderen Dalsen-Alm is located at an altitude of 920 metres between Kampenwand and Weitlahnerkopf. It can be reached on foot from the Dalsen car park in Mühlau in around 1¼ hours. At the Huber-Kaser, hikers and mountain bikers are offered hearty bacon and cheese sandwiches at weekends. The Hofbauern-Alm was first mentioned in the mid-16th century; the present alpine hut dates back to the 1920s. With a little luck, marmots can be spotted in its grazing area. The Hofbauern-Alm can be reached on foot from the Dalsen car park in Mühlau in around 2½ hours.
Another worthwhile landscape landmark is the Oberauerbrunstalm on the southern slope of the Chiemgau Hochplatte at an altitude of 967 metres. It can be reached on foot from the Mühlau car park in Schleching in around 45 minutes. At the beginning of the alpine summer in May, stemless gentians bloom around the alpine pasture, turning the meadows blue. The culinary specialities of the Oberauerbrunstalm include fresh Almnussen.
Culture and trails around Mühlau
In addition to mountain and alpine pasture destinations, smaller cultural discoveries are also part of the character of the area. In the Mühlau district of Schleching, there is a small chapel built in 1827 that has furnishings. The Mühlau Youth Chapel is also marked as a special feature on the Mühlberg circular trail. Anyone wishing to combine nature and exercise can include the Nordic walking route in their plans. It leads from Schleching through the districts of Mühlau and Mettenham to Lake Zellersee and onto the Achen embankment. One section runs along a narrow, shady path around the Mühlberg.
Which location is right for your holiday apartment
When looking for a holiday apartment in Mühlau, you can first consider which excursion destinations should shape your trip. For hikes to the Dalsen alpine pastures, Kampenwand or Weitlahnerkopf, the respective starting points at the Dalsen or Mühlau car parks play an important role in planning your day. If you want to combine trails with views, waterfalls and alpine pasture destinations, the hikes described are suitable according to their respective focus. For an excursion without your own car, it is also helpful to know that the Schleching winter hiking trail can be reached by public transport via the Abzweigung Mühlau bus stop.
This makes it possible to choose Mühlau as a starting point for active days, smaller cultural discoveries and regional specialities without having to plan all experiences in the same way.
