Rötz is a town in the Bavarian district of Cham. It lies on the eastern edge of Bavaria in the Upper Palatinate, near the German-Czech border and within Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park.
The Rötz Basin is crossed from east to west by the Schwarzach and is bordered mainly by chains of hills around 600 metres high. Schwarzwihrberg reaches a height of 706 metres.

Rötz received town rights in 1505; this year is regarded as the town's founding date. A weekly market was also established at that time.
