Traces of History on the Semberg
The name “Helenenkapelle” (Helena Capellen) appears around 1600. The grounds around Helenenkapelle on the Semberg contain traces that suggest the site was used for ritual purposes as early as Celtic times. There is also a fortification, probably prehistoric or early historic, that includes a steep 40-metre drop to the Maintal on the eastern side. These indications of earlier use should be understood as interpretations: ritual use is inferred from the traces, while the dating of the fortification remains uncertain.
