The remains of Intermediate Work No. 5 of the former Royal Bavarian Fortress of Ingolstadt offer insights into fortification engineering of the time. Another historic landmark is Fort Prinz Karl. It lies within the municipality of Großmehring and is considered the only surviving, almost unaltered example of this type of fort. Families can also explore the Eichstätt Fossil Trail: the circular route is nine kilometres long and classed as moderately difficult.
