The Mercedes-Benz Museum offers insight into the history of the automobile through 160 vehicles and more than 1,500 exhibits in total. The Porsche Museum features more than 80 vehicles and numerous smaller exhibits. One special aspect of a visit: through a glass window, you can watch specialists repairing historic vehicles. For those with a keen interest in automotive history, these are two distinct museum destinations that complement each other thematically while showcasing different collections.
The Staatsgalerie spans a broad sweep of art history: visitors will find 800 years of art, including old Swabian art and international works. Its masterpieces range from the 14th century to the present day. The Weissenhof Estate offers a different perspective on architecture. The semi-detached house by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2016; the Le Corbusier House has been a museum since 2006.
The Stuttgart TV Tower is also a remarkable piece of architectural history: it was the world’s first reinforced-concrete TV tower. In good weather, visitors can see as far as the Swabian Alb from the tower’s observation platform. For a longer outing, consider the Blaustrümpflerweg: this circular route is 7.5 kilometres long and runs entirely within Stuttgart’s city limits. Visitors can go pedal boating on Max-Eyth-See.
Swabian cuisine and festivals
At the Stuttgart Wine Village, you can sample wines from Baden-Württemberg and discover traditional Swabian dishes. The Hocketse tradition brings together regional food and wine. The Wine Village has been held every year since 1974, from late August to early September.
