Discover Langenburg
Accommodation in Langenburg
Langenburg first catches the eye because of its location: Langenburg Castle is clearly visible from the valley and stands on a pointed mountain spur that forms the western tip of Langenburg. Eleven well-signposted circular hiking trails make it possible to explore Langenburg and its outlying villages. Another special feature is the Löchner blacksmith’s workshop, preserved in its original condition, a farrier’s and wheelwright’s workshop from the 1930s. The town thus brings together a striking castle setting, trails through the town and its outlying villages, and a preserved example of traditional craftsmanship. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these features can help you decide whether Langenburg suits your own holiday interests.

Castle on the mountain spur
A pointed mountain spur is a projecting ridge of high ground. The castle stands out on it as a clearly visible landmark: it can be seen from the valley and forms the western tip of Langenburg. Its location gives the town a distinctive landscape. The castle and hiking trails also represent different interests that you can weigh up when planning your holiday days.
Circular hiking trails and planning
The eleven well-signposted circular hiking trails lead through Langenburg and its outlying villages. This means that a hike can take in several parts of the destination, rather than focusing on just one spot. A detailed brochure about the circular hiking trails is available free of charge from the Langenburg Tourist Information Office; if needed, check in advance whether it is currently available. As trail conditions can change, it is advisable to check the latest situation before setting out.
Craftsmanship and walking in the surrounding area
The Löchner blacksmith’s workshop is a farrier’s and wheelwright’s workshop from the 1930s, preserved in its original condition. The name refers to two areas of craftsmanship: work involving horseshoes and blacksmithing for wagons. As a preserved example, the workshop offers a concrete glimpse of the craftsmanship of the time during a visit to Langenburg.
In the surrounding area, the Jagsttal Wiesen Wanderung (Jagst Valley Meadows Walk) follows the south-facing slopes, parallel to the Jagst River, between Bächlingen and Berlichingen. The named villages, the slopes and the route alongside the river provide this walk with its own landmarks.
Schwäbisch Hall: town history and landscape
The wider Schwäbisch Hall destination offers other, explicitly urban experiences. Schwäbisch Hall’s historic old town combines almost unchanged medieval lanes with a partially preserved town wall, numerous towers, covered wooden bridges, many stairways and steps, and a historic market square. The Hällisch-Fränkisches Museum is housed in seven historic buildings in Schwäbisch Hall. The collegiate church of St. Nicholas at Großcomburg Monastery contains a Romanesque wheel chandelier. Visitors interested in town history, architecture and museums will find a different focus here from Langenburg’s castle setting and hiking trails.
The landscape of Schwäbisch Hall district also has several facets: the fertile Hohenlohe Plain lies to the north, and the Franconian-Swabian Keuper hills to the south. Plains and deeply incised valleys with protected valley slopes along the Kocher, Jagst and their tributaries shape the area. The major recreational and forest areas include Mainhardt Forest, the Waldenburg Hills, the Limpurg Hills and the Ellwangen Hills. Cycle routes run along the Kocher, Jagst and Bühler rivers in the district. Three day trips start and end right in Schwäbisch Hall city centre; the Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route also passes through the city. This makes it possible to consider different interests, such as hiking, town history and cycling, as separate priorities when planning a trip.
