Schopfheim: Old Town and Wiesental
Accommodation in Schopfheim
Schopfheim in the Wiesental combines a historic old town with literature, industrial history, and routes into the surrounding area. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can choose based on your destination within the town: the old town and museum call for a different location than an early start to a hike.

Old Town and Museum
The town center includes St. Michael’s Church, the town hall in the Weinbrenner style, the market square, and old lanes. A digital walking tour with 18 stops provides information in German and English. Since 1986, the Schopfheim Town Museum has been housed in a former workers’ residence belonging to the Krafft/Fahrnau shoe factory, which had previously also served as the town’s granary. It showcases everyday culture; the literary collection includes letters and first editions by Johann Peter Hebel.
The listed Old Dye Works recalls Schopfheim’s early industrial textile history. For museum visits and visits inside buildings, check current opening hours rather than assuming access is available based on their historical significance.
On Foot and by Bike
One hike leads from Schopfheim through the Entegast to Hausen im Wiesental; the return journey is described as being by S-Bahn. The literary cycling route “Per Pedal zur Poesie” runs from Lörrach via Schopfheim to Bad Säckingen. The two routes have different requirements. Check timetables, trail conditions, and the length of the section you have chosen before travelling.
