Raich is characterized by a landscape of wooded steep slopes, distinctive ridges and open meadows. The ridges and slopes are mostly covered by low-altitude beech forests, while the hollows with their settlements and the level areas are occupied by meadows or pastures. Those looking for a holiday apartment in Raich can therefore easily plan their holiday around whether extended hikes, shorter walks or cultural and historical discoveries are to be the main focus.

Hiking on Short Trails and Long Day Tours

A special destination is Nonnenmattweiher, which can be reached on foot from Raich. Depending on the starting point, the hike can be short or last the entire day. This opens up different options for planning the day: You can make a hike the main focus of the day or incorporate the route as a longer outing into an active day of vacation.

The Rieder Bächle circular trail between Raich and Ried provides specific figures. The route is 4.5 km long, includes 200 metres of elevation gain and has an average gradient of 9%, and is rated as moderately difficult. It is therefore suitable for anyone who wants to choose their tour based on clear route data. At 11.6 km and 560 metres of elevation gain, the Hörnle circular trail is considerably more extensive. It starts at the car park by Lindenhalle and, in clear weather, offers views across the valley and the Swabian Jura mountains as far as the Alps.

When looking for accommodation, these differences can play a role in personal holiday planning. Those who prefer a short hike will choose different destinations for the day than someone planning a longer circuit with a significant amount of elevation gain.

Historic Crafts and Traces of the Past

In addition to landscapes and hiking trails, Raich also offers insights into the history of the village. The former Altwaldeck Castle was located within the Raich municipal district and had probably already fallen into ruin at an early stage. It is therefore part of the area’s historical tradition, not a castle visit described as available today.

A historic file-making workshop is located by Lindenhalle. Its machines show how files were still made individually 50 years ago. Before that, the file-making workshop operated in Wieslet; in 2015/16, the machines found a new home in a building erected in Raich. This chronology makes file production tangible as a regional craft without associating the visit with any opening-hours policy that has not been specified.

The large traditional festival at Hörnle is also part of Raich’s historical character. It took place every two years and showed how people used to work and celebrate in their homes and farmyards as well as in the fields. Anyone interested in regional working practices and traditional festive culture will find another thematic approach to the village’s history here.
