Hertingen: Circular Trail, Vineyards and Village History
Accommodation in Hertingen
Hertingen combines an easy circular trail through meadows, woods and vineyards with a village history dating back to Roman times. The church is centrally located in the village centre and was rebuilt in the 1780s. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider whether you mainly want to explore Hertingen’s landscape and local history. The wider destination of Bad Bellingen also offers thermal bathing, saunas and opportunities to explore nature.
The circular trail through meadows, woods and vineyards
The route starts at the Bürgersaal Hertingen. It is rated easy, is about 4.4 kilometres long and includes 92 metres of elevation gain; the walking time is approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Agricultural and forest tracks define the route. The approximate walking time gives you a framework for planning your day, while trail conditions may vary with the seasons.
Along the way, the circular trail follows a stream, passes through the woods around the Sonnholen and goes through a large vineyard. Meadows, woods and vineyards alternate, and hikers may see wildlife. The duration and elevation figures help you estimate how long to allow for this route.
History and events in Hertingen
Iron was smelted in Hertingen as early as Roman times. Iron ore was mined here until the second half of the 19th century. Together with the church’s reconstruction in the 1780s, these events span different historical periods: from Roman iron smelting, through later ore mining, to the church in the village centre.
Another local highlight is the MSC Rebland grass-track race: it takes place every year and attracts numerous visitors. If the race is important to your travel plans, check the event dates in advance.

The Bad Bellingen Insect Trail is a German-French nature trail for children and families that introduces them to the world of insects and other small creatures. It is laid out as a circular route. At each of five stations, an animal represents an entire group of animals. The trail therefore offers a clear focus on nature for families who want to discover small creatures.

With the “Zeigmal” app, you can explore Bad Bellingen at your own pace, accompanied by informative audio messages from tour guide Susi. App availability may change.
The history of the landscape is also part of Bad Bellingen’s distinctive character: Bad Bellingen’s spa gardens were once a floodplain forest directly on the bank of an arm of the Rhine.
