Schönmünzach: Kneipp spa resort between rocky cliffs and wooded slopes
Accommodation in Schönmünzach
Schönmünzach is a climatic health and Kneipp spa resort between rugged cliffs and wooded mountain slopes. Cafés, wellness offerings and a mild therapeutic climate shape the character of the town; Schönmünzach is also regarded as the first and oldest holiday destination in the municipality of Baiersbronn. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider whether hiking, Kneipp offerings or culture should be the focus of your stay.
Water, Kneipp and local history
There are two foot-watering stations in Schönmünzach: one by the Tourist Information Office on Murgtalstraße and the Schönmünzach natural foot-watering station on Schönmünzstraße. Mini golf is also available in town; the course is right next to the spa gardens. The various water and spa offerings give the town’s name a distinctive character, while the trails through forests and meadows reveal another side of the surrounding area.
The town’s history dates back to around 1730, when Schönmünzach was established as a glassmakers’ settlement on Reichenbach land. Those interested in the town’s history will find a clear historical connection alongside today’s wellness and nature themes. According to the regular service schedule, a service is held at 11:00 a.m. on Sundays at St. John the Evangelist Church in Baiersbronn-Schönmünzach. Special occasions may change the regular times.
Hiking: a stage destination and starting point
The Baiersbronn Panorama Trail passes through forests and meadows to Schönmünzach, where it crosses the Murg River. Schönmünzach plays two different roles on the Murgleiter Trail: the third stage, listed for 2026, runs from Forbach via Schwarzenbach to Schönmünzach and is 17.4 km long. The fourth stage, also listed for 2026, starts in Schönmünzach and goes via Schwarzenberg and Tonbach to Baiersbronn. This means the town is the destination of one stage and the starting point of the next.
The fifth stage of the Baiersbronn Seensteig Trail offers another perspective on the region: it heads towards Lake Huzenbach and later returns to the forests of the Black Forest National Park. The route is not described as starting in Schönmünzach. Seasonal conditions may affect its use; check them before your hike.
Out and about with children and by the water
The Schönmünzach–Schönmünztal stroller-friendly route follows the Schönmünz stream and starts and ends at the Schönmünzach Tourist Information car park. Along the way, there is a children’s playground with a barbecue area, cooling fountains and a foot-watering facility. Seasonal conditions may affect its use, so it is advisable to check current conditions before setting out.
For travel by public transport, Schönmünzach station is served by S-Bahn lines S41 and S31. Check the timetable before travelling. This is a separate planning consideration from choosing a hike: the routes describe experiences in the surrounding area, while the line information relates to the station.
