Iselshausen combines a remarkable stream landscape with traces of regional history. The stream experience trail, historic cellars, churches and the connection to the long-distance cycle route give the village a variety of facets. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Iselshausen can therefore choose their preferred travel focus between experiencing nature, culture and active exploration.

Short Routes Along the Water and a Special Landscape

The Iselshausen Stream Experience Trail is an easy, 0.66-kilometre themed circular route. It offers a manageable way to explore the course of the Steinach and its surroundings. In the area around the trail, unaltered, meandering sections of the Steinach and the associated floodplain are rare. The route also passes through a protected landscape area, making the stream landscape itself an important part of the visitor experience.

When the stream experience trail was built, a section of the old mill channel on the Steinach was reactivated in 2011. The trail lies directly along the long-distance Heidelberg–Black Forest–Lake Constance Cycle Route. This makes it possible to include Iselshausen in a cycling trip as a place with a specific connection to the landscape and its history. Those who prefer to combine a short walk with further discoveries will find a different way of exploring the history here than on a longer cycling tour.

Churches, Tree Stories and Historical Traces

The area’s cultural history also offers several points of interest. St. James’ Parish Church was originally a filial church of Nagold. The Church of St. James is listed by the Evangelical Parish of Nagold as a place of worship. Behind the Church of St. James, a station on the Nagold Tree Trail is located at a small-leaved lime tree. The Nagold Tree Trail is available as a digital smartphone experience and can be used to hear stories about the trees. This is an interesting addition for anyone who wants to discover local history not only through buildings but also through the surrounding landscape.

The Historical Tour in Iselshausen leads to the village’s old hillside cellars. Several old cellars above the Obere Mühle have largely been preserved. The Obere Mühle itself is a historic, listed building. The local economic history also includes the factory of the “Calwer Deckenfabrik”, founded in 1844 by Johann Adam Sannwald. Merovingian-period stone slab graves have also been recorded in Iselshausen. The Chapel of St. James, first mentioned in 1395, probably served as a stopping point for weary pilgrims. These various traces make the village particularly interesting for travellers who want to combine nature and history.
