Landscape and distinctive natural features
The Teufelskammern are located east of Loffenau, not far from the Großen Loch. These cave-like erosion formations belong to the Eck Formation of the Lower Buntsandstein. They were formed as softer sandstone eroded beneath a harder, silicified layer of Buntsandstein, which forms the roof. The Teufelskammern are an example of a distinctive form of sandstone erosion. The Sonnenlaube on Pfarrberg offers a different kind of appeal: this viewpoint provides both views and shade.
Waterfalls and trails
A bridge with a viewing platform and a new flight of steps makes it possible to visit the Laufbach Waterfalls as part of the Kleine Dorfrunde. In certain weather conditions, the paths by the waterfalls can be slippery, so sure-footedness is essential.
The Panoramarunde leads from the spa park along Dorfstraße for a short distance to Kreuzstich, then continues towards the Bergle viewpoint. Another route leads to the Michelsrankhütte: from the area behind the Teufelsmühlturm, the Zick-Zack-Pfad takes you there, involving a descent of around 100 metres in elevation. These destinations and waypoints offer different points of reference for planning time outdoors.
Church, village square and observatory
The late-medieval frescoes in the Church of the Holy Cross come from Loffenau’s old church. Only its chancel remains, forming the lower part of today’s tower. The frescoes and the surviving architectural section are two traces of the former church building.
The award-winning village square in the Kirchwiesen fits into Loffenau’s townscape. The observatory on the Grenzertplatte was officially inaugurated on 4 October 2008. The church, square and observatory each add their own distinct features to the town’s history.

Two paragliding launch sites are operated on the Teufelsmühle: a western one at 900 m and a northwestern one at 846 m. The foot-washing area in the Löchle/Holzwiesen area was established around 50 years ago and is still used by children and locals as a recreational facility.
